What's Up Dock? - Mackinaw Trail Series Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

-Rusty-: Greetings,

While Geocaching.com would like to continue to hold the location for you, doing so blocks other cachers from placing caches in the area. We feel that this cache has been disabled for a period of time exceeding what is reasonable for the area, and thus I regretfully must archive it.

If you are able to get out and replace the cache, simply drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. I will be more than happy to take a look at it to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

Thank you,

Rusty...

Geocache Description:

This is a Traditional Micro Cache that is doable during the months with snow on the ground and is located near Dock No. 3 Park St Ignace, Michigan

In 1941 the Writers' Program of the WPA in the state of Michigan published the book “Michigan a Guide to the Wolverine State” which, among other things, listed a number of auto tours through the state. The Comrades of Four would like to recognize the work of these researchers and writers by placing a series of geocashes along tour route 16A running from Sault Ste Marie to St. Ignace, (then known as a segment of US 2 but now known as the Mackinac Trail). Each geocache in this series marks a highlight of the 1941 tour.

The geocache is in a park unknown to most Michigan travelers situated very near the docks that previously served the travelers of St. Ignace. While very nice in its own right it offers excellent views of the waters and nearby island.

From the 1941 Michigan a guide to the Wolverine State, “ St Ignace, 53 m. (600 alt., 2,109 pop.) (ferryt between St. Ignace and Mackinaw City (see tour 11a), in Lower Peninsula; winter, every three hours; spring and fall, every hour and a half. Summer, every hour; rates, car and driver, $1 to $1.50; passengers, .25; trailers, 41 up)

See if you can find the bench mark in the area.
