This is cache #3 of our quest to get caches in Seymour.
Seymour bills itself as birthplace of the hamburger, thanks to
Charlie Nagreen. As the account goes, Nagreen began selling
meatballs at the county fair, but soon learned that his meatballs
were of little value to his customers, simply because they were
difficult to eat while trying to enjoy the fair. So, Nagreen
flattened the beef and placed it between two slices of bread,
calling it a hamburger. His idea was a success and soon he was
known to many as "Hamburger Charlie."
The coordinates will take you to Nagel Park and to a 12-foot
statue in Charlie's honor. Accordingly, DO NOT ATTEMPT this cache
during events at Nagel Park.
On the same side of the street nearby Charlie is a railroad club
building and an old refrigeration car. Across the street, also of
interest, is a huge grill that cooked a 8,266-pound burger that fed
13,000 people.
FINDING THE FINAL CACHE: On Charlie's statue you will
find various inscribed plaques. On one plaque you will find the
following information:
1. The age Charlie was when he sold his first hamburger.
2. How many years Charlie sold his hamburgers at the fair.
NOTE: You may find this information on the Web. However, in some
places, including "official" places, there is different information
than is shown on the statue. If you do not use the information from
the statue, your final coordinates may be off!
Coordinates for the final are:
44. 30.ABC
088 19.XYZ
Where:
ABC = 770 minus Number 1 from above
XYZ = 716 minus Number 2 from above
Good luck, and have a hamburger in honor of Charlie!
