A "haunting" walk along the Deeside railway
A cache inspired by classic railway Ghost Stories
Halloa! Below there!
Anyone remember Arnold Ridley’s “The Ghost Train” when a group of passengers arrive at an old deserted railway station haunted by a ghost train that only runs at night. Where locals remember "The Accident” but won't talk about it.
“.....if it be a natural thing, where do it come from? Where do it go.........?"
Or the darkness of Charles Dickens’ classic story “The Signalman” in which a Traveller befriends a fearful Signalman who tells him a disturbing and unbelievable tale of a ghostly apparition which materialises just before a tragedy occurs on the line, and who is doomed and powerless to prevent his own demise……..
Or that song “Ghost Train” by Madness - Ooh oo-oo-oh, waiting for the train that never comes. Ooh oo-oo-oh, waiting for the train that never comes”.
If so then this cache is for you. By day this is a popular pleasant walk along the track bed of part of the old Deeside Railway as it passes through open areas of the city suburbs overlooking the River Dee. I don’t know if it has its own ghost or it is haunted but if not then it should be because at night it has a completely different feel as remains of old platforms, bridges and buildings appear eerily out of the gloom, sounds are amplified and changed in the still air, and ghostly figures emerge from the darkness, their eyes reflected as pinpoints of light....
