Geocache Description:

Mostly almost flat ground, but a mowed lawn with some buildings to visit (the museum).

The coords. take you to where you can get the information required, but you will learn a lot more if you visit the site while the museum is open.

The park is located in Goldvein, VA, and this area contained over 100 registered gold mines, around the mid-1800's, although this area is little know in history for gold mining.

The Franklin Mine excavated a 300 foot shaft to find one vein of gold.

To log this cache, you must:

  1. Take a photo of yourself with the object(s) that look like the object in the image.
  2. Tell me in an e-mail the folowing 2 bits of information:
    1. Approximately how many gold mines are in FauQuier County?
    2. From 1825 to the Civil War, how much gold did the Franklin Mine shaft produce?

Use my profile to e-mail me the information for the above questions, and post the photo of you with your GPS by the object, and then log your find.

Try to visit the site while the museum is open. There is so much great information available, and the curator is very knowledgeable and very interesting. There is a club meeting, open to the public, the second Saturday of the month, I believe, at 10:00 am.
