This cache is Located on "Treasure Island" in
Halpatiokee Regional Park . Halpatiokee (Seminole for "Alligator
Water") was purchased with funds from the Land For You bond
referendum and Florida Communities Trust. The county leases the
South Fork addition from the South Florida Water Management
District and the Department of Evironmental Protection. The park
has a variety of habitats including grassy marshes, freshwater
swamps, pine forest, and oak hammocks.
My wife bought me a new kayak for our one-year anniversary, so I
was dying to go kayaking. To get this cache you will need a
kayak/canoe or you must be a good swimmer. You can park your car in
Hosford Park and launch your vessel there for free. The Island this
cache is located on is called "Treasure Island", but I liked the
name "Lost Island" better because the River is called "Lost River".
On this island you find two locations that you can dock your vessel
at. There's a kid made tree house on one part of the island.
Remember to bring your lunch and enjoy the scenery.
You are looking for a small container with a log book in
it. |
