Yes, you have to get out of the car and walk to this one. But it's
a fairly quick hike only 0.15 miles from pavement...and, in our
less-than-humble opinions, is well worth the detour from Hwy. 120.
Just follow the trail along the south side of the river. We highly
suggest bringing a towel and your swimwear before heading out to
this one. Well, unless it's February. But when we hid the cache,
the temperatures were pushing triple-digits and boy, was that water
enticing!
You're looking for a 30-cal ammo can tucked in amongst the
rocks. That may not be the complete giveaway you expect, since
there are quite a few rocks and given the canyon setting, GPS
signal may get a tad bouncy (though we let our 60CSx average for
about 15 minutes). Since the destination is the true reward here,
we nonetheless tried to make it pretty easy.
Be on the lookout for poison oak both on your hike in and at the
cache site. Unlike the first spot we attempted (where after placing
the cache I realized I was up to my elbows in the stuff), you can
easily get to the cache without touching any poison oak (at least
you could when we hid the cache)...but do watch your head.
PLEASE be sure to re-hide the cache well. This is, after
all, a very popular spot!
Good luck, and Happy Caching!
