Geocache Description:

This is a small cache hidden in the newest public land on Old Mission peninsula. Please park near the entrance at N 44 57.443, W 85 29.427.

This is a small cache, about the size of a 12 oz. jar, but it's... well, camoflaged. The cache is on the newest public land on Old Mission peninsula - at the site of the future Peter Dougherty Museum. The land was recently purchased, and the house will be restored and will house the Old Mission Historical Society's museum. It's not open yet, but hopefully will be in a few years.

Peter Dougherty was a missionary who came to this area in 1839. He founded the mission that gives Old Mission its name. The house was built about that time, and is the oldest house on the peninsula, and one of the oldest houses in northern michigan.
