My first plan for this cache was near the tombstones, until I discovred Gone But (Hopefully) Not Forgotten was there. That's what I get for being a late-comer to geocaching! So this area will have to do. Note, there is an area within 100 ft of the cache that is sometimes used by homeless muggles - no need to go there.
Endurance connection: Just south of the cache are two tombstones - all that remain of a cemetary for the old county hospital, located around these premises before the stores and the freeway were built. Patients buried in the graveyard had no near family and have had to endure either no tombstone, few meaningful visitors if any, and/or being moved to the New Auburn Cemetary when the shopping center and freeway were built. I have a lot of respect for graveyards, but according to the person who researched and recorded the names and dates of those buried here, "Many were excavated and transported..., and only two headstones are left to mark the estimated few hundred remains still buried there." Reminds me way too much of the movie "Poltergiest" - "You moved the tombstones, but ya didn't move the bodies!" That's what makes this whole shopping center a little creepy to me, who knows what lies below the ground!
