This wil be about a quarter mile to half mile hike on flat terrain for the most part except the last 100 yards will require some bushwacking. Park right off the highway next to the bridge - do not drive south to the cache - motorized vehicles are not allowed.
I know what you are thinking - there aren't any 7-11's around here any longer. Today, while out for a hike I found a sign that said 7-11, in fact thate were two of them. My intention was to place the cache half way between the two of them but that would have been in a 'no-go' zone by geocaching law.
Here is the 'Diversion' - back in the late 50's or 60's the City fathers were concerned about the City being flooded by the Sioux River so they came up with a plan. The decided to build a dam on the River so that they could control how much water would circulate around the city. When the dam was closed the water would be diverted through a Diversion Channel around the north side of the City, down the Spillway then back into the orginal channel of the river down by Morrells. The whole mechanism is still functional today.
To locate the cache, you don't need to do any climbing, hanging or endangering your life. Don't go on or near the RR tracks.
Be sure to take the kids, you might just get to see an airplane take off or if you are really lucky you can have a train RUN RIGHT OVER YOUR HEAD.
