Geocache Description:

This is another adventure cache. Driving north on I-17, you can't help but notice Gavilan Peak. I have been planning on climbing it for sometime and today was the day...the summit has been begging for a cache and now there is!

The weather forecast for today was cooler, due to the likely chance of thunderstorms. Hoping to not be a new chapter in the next edition of the Darwin Awards, I headed out to climb the peak and take my chances.

I came in from the south, but there really isn't an easy way to reach the summit. In a little over a half mile, I gained almost 1000 feet in elevation. I explored both peaks, so round trip was about 1.2 miles from where I parked. The hike is steep, there is lots of loose shale, and did I mention that there is lots of loose shale? Take your time, bring lots of water and try to pick a cool day as this is a strenuous climb.

The cache contains an unpublished geocoin for the first to find; you may keep it, or put it into circulation. There is also a geode and a couple of other items.
