Geocache Description:

East Devon Village

Awliscombe is a village in the East Devon district of Devon, England. It is about two miles west of the town of Honiton. The Church is named St. Michael and All Angels. Like other churches on a hill it is dedicated to the patron saint of hills, St. Michael. The original church is dated to the 15th century and the original settlement of Awliscombe is likely to be Saxon in origin. Inside, the church screen has been described as being, “ one of the splendid survivals of the best craftsmanship of medieval Devon .”The floor of the church slopes upwards from west to the east and is actually a case of “walking up the aisle.”Outside, the porch is early 16th century and is curious in having two openings and on the left side pillar incised into the stone is “THE BRIDES HAND.”The cache is not here but you need to know the inscribed date on the hand to locate the small white container. The year in question was a Leap year when tradition allows a woman to propose marriage to a man. The cache was made to contain “T. B. Spinster of this Parish.” A.k.a. Miss Angelena Green who wanted to travel the South of England looking for “T.B. Mr. Perfect “to ask him if she can be his bride.
The co-ordinates shown are for the public car park opposite, you will need to locate the brides hand and date [ABCD] on it, in order to complete the co-ordinates and find the cache.
The cache is at N50° BxB.AC[B-A] W003° A3.A2[B-A] Due to heavy tree cover can not get accuracy better than 27ft.
