ST PATRICK’S WELL – ULLSWATER Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Royal Oak: Hi

I notice that this cache appears to have been unavailable for some time now. Would the owner please check this cache and carry out the necessary maintenance or give an indication of when it may be sorted out. Otherwise it should be archived. If there is no response (eg cache checked and an Owner Maintenance Log, note on the cache page or an email direct to me) after 20 days I may archive the cache, in the meantime I am disabling it. If you send me an email, you must also put a suitable note on the cache page, so other cachers know what is happening.

If maintenance is not possible at the present time, please put a note on the cache and it will not be archived. If you do nothing it may be archived.

Guidelines: "As the cache owner, you are also responsible for physically checking your cache periodically, and especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time - normally a few weeks - in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Regards

Geocache Description:

Short walk. THE CACHE IS NOT PLACED AT THE MEMORIAL - RESPECT PLEASE!

Around 450AD St Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland is supposed to have preached on the banks of Ullswater in Cumbria, having walked away from a shipwreck on the Duddon Sands. It is said that St Patrick baptised several of the inhabitants of the dale now called Patterdale at the well to which his name has been attached. The dale was originally designated Patrick or Patrick’s dale, and is entered, under the date of 1581, as Patrickdale in the Bishop’s register, so that the present name is evidently a corruption of the one it previously bore. The Holy Well dedicated to St Patrick can still be found roughly one mile outside of the village of Glenridding and as with many Holy Wells it also has a reputation for curing sickness. We have placed the cache along the path behind the well since it stands on the bend of the busy A592 and there is no access path. **********Congratulations to Heather W on FTF**********
