Geocache Description:

Oregon Trail Series:
Bonneville Point

Thousands of emigrants crossed
southwestern Idaho between
1843 and 1870 on their way
to the Willamette River valley in Oregon.

Ahead is where the pioneers were treated to their first view of the Boise River valley. Emerging from the mountains to the east, the river flowed through a large valley lined with cottonwood trees. These were the first significant trees along the trail for several weeks. The trail descended into the river valley, dropping over several benches along the way.
