Ribbons of Green Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

2Wheel'in: MooseMaMa and I were in Lake Fairfax Park today checking on another one of my caches, and we stopped by to visit "Ribbons". The cache had a good run for almost 5 1/2 years, had 298 Finds, and 7 DNFs...time to open the area for someone else to place a cache. Follow the Fairfax County Park Authority placement guidelines, and approval is all but guaranteed. The container was removed, contents were mostly "crappola" and were disposed of. Many thanks to all who hunted "Ribbons of Green"...I enjoyed reading your logs.

Geocache Description:

A fairly easy cache...placed at the request of, and with permission from the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA), in support of their 2010 Geocaching Summer Camp Program (cache is permanent). Gravel and hardpack trail from parking, no elevation changes.

This cache is hidden in Lake Fairfax Park, a FCPA Park with a wealth of attractions, as well as peaceful green spaces. It complies fully with the geocaching guidelines released by the FCPA.

Begin your hike from the parking area (waypoint provided), and follow the gravel road/path to to the NE, where you’ll find a well used hardpack trail, and pass an informational sign. The cache name makes sense now, eh? It’s an easy hike suitable for kids of all ages. Round trip distance depends on your parking spot, but should be under 0.2 miles. The cache container is just 6 feet off the trail, and is hidden in a very traditional manner. The location sees lots of foot, and bicycle traffic, so please exercise “Muggle Awareness” when retrieving the container, and cover it well when you replace it.

Take a few minutes to read the informational sign…consider it a teachable moment with Mother Nature.

Last, but not least: No thorns, no ticks, no poison ivy, but maybe a Blue-tailed Skink.

Fairfax County Parks are open daily, dawn to dusk, please do NOT hunt this cache at night or any other time the park is closed.

NOTICE: Please be respectful of the posted park hours. If you enter the park after hours you are trespassing. If you are stopped you can be ticketed or arrested and will put the future of geocaching in the parks in jeopardy.
