Geocache Description:

A cache at a memorial to a tragic time in Ukrainian history.

The Holodomor was a forced famine that occurred in Ukraine under Stalin's rule. From 1932-33 millions of Ukrainians died of starvation as food was removed from the country and Ukrainians were left with nothing to eat.

This cache is hidden near a memorial & museum to the tragedy. I thought it would be an apt spot for a milestone cache, so the cache would have added meaning and enlighten visitors about a piece of Ukrainian history. Take time to wander the area, view the sculptures and reminders, and say a prayer that events like this don't ever happen again.



This cache was hidden the evening of June 24th, 2013 at about 10:30p.m.. It was the last of five caches I hid that day, and when it was published the following day after the others, it carried Ukraine to a new milestone: 300 active caches. It unfortunately appears at the beginning instead of the end of the 5 I hid that day, due to me using an older GC number I guess instead of grabbing a new one, but regardless this was the last of the five and became Ukraine's 300th active cache.

Use your phone camera to check the hiding spot before reaching in. Tree hollows can collect garbage and things you don't want to reach into. Hopefully this one is high enough to avoid this but PLEASE do not take chances; don't reach into this without checking first that nothing is in there but the cache.
