Almanac for a great family event:
1. HIDE SOME
CACHES
Starting immediately, get out in the winter
sunshine moonlight and start hiding caches. This
year’s theme is inspired by the Mayan Calendar
and is “PARTY LIKE IT’S 2012 THROUGH THE NIGHT”
sorry Prince© but this is a family friendly
event!
All CARWN2012 caches should be medium or large sized, ammo cans are
ideal. Other containers should be acquired at no (or little) cost
to yourself. This means PB Jars, recycled LnL's!, or home-made
containers are all excellent choices. Of course, all caches must
contain a log book, and should have a pencil and some trading
items. No premium only hides (convert after the event please), and
please
DO NOT USE your smart phone to hide a cache. All
CARWN2012 caches must be winter AND night friendly. (winter AND
night friendly overrules cache size).
There will be a new “outer limit” this year to
accommodate the ammo can theme, All caches should be within a 60
Kilometre radius from the Hotel Mac. The 60km radius sets the
boundaries at ROUGHLY the same as the graphically superb map
provided by VP.
In a counter-clockwise arc; Stony Plain+, Calmar, Leduc/Kavanagh,
New Sarepta, Ministik, Ardossan, Red Water, Gibbons, Morinville+
and Calahoo. The map centre is located at 100th Avenue and 100th
Street in the heart of Downtown Edmonton.

There is no requirement to place your ammo can/cache container at
or under a spruce tree, meaning that as long as the cache fulfils
the above mentioned criteria, it can be a CARWN2012 cache. All
caches should include a Reviewer's Note, and MUST include CARWN2012
at the end of the title. For example,
Stumped by Another
Lousy Pun at Knight (CARWN2012) would suffice. If there are
any issues regarding train tracks, clarification, etc, please
include this in the reviewers' note to make publishing easier.
Cache Effect has requested that all caches be submitted no
later than Wednesday, 22 February 2012.
Cache pages should use the following text (box not required):
This CARWN2012
cache will be published about 18:00 hrs Thursday, 1st March,
2012.
Please remember that these are night caches and CANNOT be hunted
until 19:00 hrs Saturday, 3rd March, 2012.
Should you hunt and find this cache prior to the start time, it
will not count for the event,
and FTF points are only valid as of 19:00 hrs Saturday, 3rd March,
2012.
2. FIND SOME CACHES
This year's night event will commence at 19:00
hrs Saturday, 3rd March, 2012. Starting at this time, you can
search out as many CARWN2012 caches that you can until 06:00
Sunday, 4 March 2012. You can search in teams, with a buddy, with a
dog, individually... whatever strikes your fancy. Just make sure
that you write down the time that you/your team finds the cache. If
you want to qualify for points and prizes, ensure that you
return to the banquet by 15:30 hrs Sunday, 4th March, 2012
or risk losing points.
We are anticipating that
Cache Effect will be publishing the
CARWN2012 caches at 18:00 hrs Thursday, March 1, 2012. Please
remember that caches
CANNOT be hunted until 19:00 the
following SATURDAY night. Any caches found prior will not count for
the event, and FTF point are valid as of 19:00 hrs Saturday, 3rd
March, 2012.
3. MEET AND GREET (log book
signing)!
Starting at 00:00 hrs on Sunday, 4th March, 2012, the CARWN meet
and greet will commence. This will allow us a chance to warm up,
discuss any puzzles, share interesting stories, and direct others
to really cool night caches. The venue for the meet and greet will
be Tim Hortons 11241 Groat Road North West Edmonton AB, T5M
4E7.
This location was chosen because it's fairly close to the centre of
the event circle and I'm certain there will be a few night caches
nearby for you to grab before or after the event.
