Winter Mercury Challenge | 0°C ~ -10°C Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

onecrazycanadian: Hi,

The low health score on this cache has remained below 60 since our last contact. I see no sign of any maintenance being done to correct this and I have had no response from the owner since my last contact. Due to the lack of response I have no idea if any corrective action has been taken. Consequently I am archiving the cache at this time. If the owner does happen to complete the maintenance required and wish to activate the cache again just let me know and I will consider unarchiving it once the issue is resolved.

Thanks

Geocache Description:

The Winter Fury series will be traditional micro containers that can be found at any time, but with one unique, yet OPTIONAL, challenge...

TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THIS CHALLENGE (OPTIONAL):

1. Find the container and sign the log WHILE it is between the range of 0 degrees celsius and -10 degrees celsius.

2. Take a picture of yourself with the placed thermometer at ground zero.

3. (Optional) Submit a screenshot of Environment Canada's weather data.

It seems that summer was just here! Afternoons out on the lake, relaxing at the beach, and that hot, sweltering humidity that was ever present. Lawnmowers were running - air conditioners were humming - but, what happened??

I could go into detail, but a brief overview is that the earth's tilted axis caused a lowering in the angle of the sun, resulting in colder temperatures, and as a result - frozen precipitation, or snow! It really is a miracle when you think just a small change of axis can alter the climate year after year, in such a drastic manner.

This specific cache's close proximity to the nearby community gardens will give you a look at the remains of what used to be fresh produce - or if you are looking in the spring... well, basically a mud pit - slowly thawing, with eager gardeners awaiting planting time.

If you are attempting the challenge: Depending on when you look for this cache, in the fall, or in the spring, you will need to be attentitive to the weather forecast - and make sure it will be in the range of 0 degrees celsius to minus 10 degrees celsius AT THE TIME you find the cache if you want to successfully complete the challenge.

**I have marked the area the mercury level will need to be at with a small black rectangle.

Good luck, and hey, dress warm and have a good time!
