A Wild Camp Out Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Haggis Hunter: This event might have only been attended by 5 cachers, 1 non cacher and 2 dogs making it a very small event. But I can say it will most definitely be a memorable one. I think it is probably safe to say that friendships were definitely bonded during this weekend.

Well done everyone and here is to the next one.

Geocache Description:

You are invited to spend a night out with Haggis Hunter & PYTG in a very remote location within the Highlands.

When:

Saturday 22nd March 2014

Where:

The Meanach Bothy, at the above co-ordinates.

Time:

Approximately 6p.m. until you go to bed, or decide it’s time to go home.

Start time is not definite, as we also need to get there ourselves. But if we haven’t arrived by the time you are there, please make yourself comfy.

Details:

To my knowledge Scotland has never had an actual wild camping event!

This event is being held at the Meanach Bothy located within the Central Highlands. It is an extremely remote location and is not accessible by road. Yes, you will need to walk in, and bring everything you need to survive the night out in the wild.

Despite the event being held at a bothy, everyone who attends, and presuming you will want to stay the night, should bring a tent with them. Due to many different circumstances it is not guaranteed that any of us will be able to sleep in the bothy for the night.

I am not going to go into details on what you need to bring. If you intend to come to this event, then you must be capable of navigating to the location and have suitable knowledge of what equipment you require for such an undertaking. This is not going to be an organised hike led by one or two people. This is being listed as a camping event and no one will be responsible for your safety and wellbeing. With that said you won’t be left stuck if you are in trouble.

Itinerary:

Our personal itinerary is as follows, if you are able to, you may join us. But please remember the comments above. Train times are exact as at 21:30hrs 11th March 2014. All other times are approximate, but as already proven details are subject to change.

Saturday 22nd: 11:40hrs – Catch train at Fort William arriving at Corrour 12:31hrs.
Walk out to the cache ‘Trainspotting – Small cache’ and then head for the event via ‘The Mare’s Rock’ and ‘The Devil Deals a Hand’.

18:00hrs – Arrive at bothy, and have a good evening.

Sunday 23rd: 08:00hrs – Pack and tidy up bothy and set off in the direction of Fort William.

If we arrive in Fort William and have time to spare on the Saturday, we will be dropping a car off at the end of the glen, waypoint – Glen Nevis. This way we won’t need to walk the whole way back along the road to Fort William. I suggest that if possible you should try and make arrangements with friends to do the same.

Firewood:

We’ll be bringing a bag of logs along with us. It would be good if we could share these out amongst everyone to carry out to the bothy.
