This cache will take you to the "Pont Gauthey " in Guegnon and tells you "The légende du passeur“ (The legend of the ferryman).

The designer of the bridge was Émiland Gauthey (born in Chalon-Sur-Saône December 3, 1732 and died in Paris July 14, 1806). He was a mathematician, civil engineer and architect.

The bridge in Gueugnon is an arched bridge of 60.87 meters length and a width of 7.10 meters with a 1.90 meter original slope and decreasing scope of the arches of 12.10m width. It was built from 1784 to 1787. Completed in 1787, it was one of the first buildings of Émiland Gauthey .

The bridge is a good place for telling "The Legend of the ferryman "

In the Charolais dialect, the word „gueugnon“ means whining, moaning feebly. In the old times there was no bridge over the Arroux in this place. People had to wait for the ferryman and his boat. And because of that, the people groaned, moaned or „gueugner“: hence the word Gueugnon!

What Gueugnonnais call : "La légende du passeur", gave the city the name.

It is easier to take the logbook from the container by using tweezers.

Juli 1806 in Paris gestorben).
