We've been skiing at Buller pretty much every year since returning to Melbourne from Sydney in 1988. Our kids have grown up skiing and boarding since their very early years, and competed in the Victorian Interschool Snow sports since primary school, right through to the end of secondary school. Then with their university teams in the Intervarsity competition.
In that time, we've all been down the Little Buller ski run countless times, and all the while looking down the run to see the peak of Little Buller Spur rising up at the end of the run like a supporting pedestal for the slope. I've wanted to place a geocache up there for years, and I've finally gotten the job done.
This would be a hard slog in winter I would think, but not impossible.
The bottom of the Little Buller ski run is accessible in summer as a bushwalk from the village along the Whisky Trail. From the base, there's a track up to the top.
In summer take plenty of water and let someone know where you're going, and preferably don't go alone. A trip resulting in an injury can quickly become a major issue, as with any bushwalk in these parts.
The cache is an ammo can with plenty of room for swaps but it will not be visited for long periods during winter most likely so best not to leave trackables here unless a 4 or 5 month delay, perhaps longer, is acceptable.
On a clear day there is a great view from GZ back towards the ski runs and the village.
