“Mr Harvie & Son, Chemists” Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

FraSoSi: It is with sadness that we have to archive this cache on its 4th birthday.

Mr Harvie & Son, Chemists, have passed away many moons ago, and unfortunately their lovely home known as Killin Cottage fell victim to a fire 5 days before Christmas 2017.

The history of this cottage is now laid to rest too.

Geocache Description:

This Cottage was built in the 1870’s for the town’s chemist, Mr George Harvie. He had his pharmacy on East Princes Street, opposite the main entrance to the central train station. In the evenings and at weekends he was dispensing from this property. The pharmacy and the property were known to belong to “Mr Harvie & Son, chemists” for at least six decades.

Digging in the garden we found old glass bottles and other strange items one of which is complete and has the wording ‘George Harvie Chemist Helensburgh’ on it. During digging (for foundation of an extension) we also discovered an amazing well that was stone lined and descending to a depth of over 5m.

The owner of this property is fully aware of the cache position. There is no need to enter the property grounds, however you are welcome to sit on the bench behind the hedge to sign the log. Don't be shy - you may even ring the bell. And if you speak Swiss-German, I'm always happy to have a little chat in my native language.

And if "Fredrik" is sitting in the drive, you can also "discover" our 4-wheeled black TB....
