St Michaels and All Angels Church is situated north of the river, just west of the village main street up a surprisingly steep road called Church Bank. It is a Grade I listed building. “A happy puzzle for the antiquarian and an impressive, if a little incongruous, sight for the layman” according to architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner. Felton’s church dates from about 1200, and has an unusual appearance as it seems to have no roof from over part of the structure from a distance. There is a very large entrance porch and a small bell tower. The appearance of the church is a result of the structure of the church dating from two periods. The earlier building can be seen in the chancel and nave, with the nave originally built without aisles. The aisles were added in the fourteenth century. The church is really an older church surrounded by a newer one
