Monastiraki is a little old village close to the gorge "Ha", founded in the 19th century as "Monastiri" (monastery). In that time more than 200 people did live here.
The last years there were lot of improvements: The roads and the water supply have been renovated and a public sewerage system has been installed. Many owners did renovate their old houses. Still there are not living much more than a dozen of people permanently in the village. We are happy that one of them is Giannis who runs together with his wife Sofia a very good tavern. (We come here even from far to meet friends at very tasty Cretan food.)
Downstairs next to his tavern Giannis built and equipped a small museum, the "FABRICA". Those traditional oil presses, which were in use until the middle of the last century and somewhere even until the 70ies, were usually called φάμπρικα (fabrica). Giannis loves to show his guests this little exhibition of oil press equipment which he brought together in his rooms.
(I am not sure, whether it is open all days in winter, better to call first: +30 697 284 7432.)
The cache itself is hidden on the other side of the street at the ruin of an old house. In this house you will find the rests of an old oil mill. Looking through the little window you may see the old millstones and watching through the door you see the rusty old press. All these things you can admire in best restored condition in Giannis' "FABRICA".
Use the spoiler picture to find exactly the stone which has to be moved for logging. Please leave all the other stones in their places. Thank you. Bring your own pen!
Have fun!

Danke! Und Stift nicht vergessen …
Viel Vergnügen!
