This Boy Scout-themed cache was placed by scouts from Troops 79 and 170 in Somerset, KY, while working on a requirement for the Geocaching Merit Badge.
This is a Treasures of Scouting cache. In the Boy Scout program, boys (ages 11-17) learn and grow through the experiences of camping, hiking, building projects and community service. Scouting fosters self-esteem, a sense of value and belonging, a sense of accountability and teamwork. It’s also fun!
Learning to be safe in and around water is an essential part of the Boy Scout program. In fact, before a boy can earn his First Class Rank he must demonstrate an ability to pass a swim test. And, to participate in water sports, boys must have leaders specifically trained in a variety of related disciplines.
Merit Badges related to water activity include: Canoeing, Kayaking, Lifesaving, Motorboating, Oceanography, Rowing, Scuba Diving, Small-Boat Sailing, Swimming, Water Sports and Whitewater.
You do not have to get wet or have any special training to locate this cache. "Be Prepared," though, there is no writing instrument in the container.
NIGHT CACHING IS NOT ALLOWED.
Cache was placed with the permission of the Somerset mayor.
