Geocache Description:

Recently the family and I took a vacation to Oregon. During the trip I had the divine privilege of visiting the holy site of the birthplace of Geocaching where I just happened to meet up with the Greek god of Geocaching himself. Who is that you ask?  Why it turns out to be Hermes. Apparently there was no god assigned to the Geocache themes of hiding or camouflage so it fell upon him as the god of travelers.  Made sense to me as, we all know, Geocaching is 95% about the journey.  He was new to the assignment and was in Oregon getting himself up to speed on his new realm of management.  He said after some careful consideration he had a few “directives” he wanted to institute, “decrees” if you will.  In fact he had this list of ten “commandments” that he asked me to pass along to the rest of you.

#5: No Haystack Needles

On this one Hermes seemed even more annoyed than usual. “Have you seen these bison tube things hidden in a bush or a twenty foot long shrubbery? Who could possibly enjoy this? What are people thinking? Geocaching is about the journey, not the tedious, endless search through a billion leaves for a microscopic tube. And what about tiny containers hidden among a million rocks? Who thinks that could possibly be fun?” I had to agree and I told Hermes about this field of lava rocks I once encountered on Maui. Worst cache ever. The hint was under a pile of lava rocks. I have decided to call it quits on many a geocaching day after encountering one of these types of hides. “No more needles in haystacks” Hermes commanded. “There is something to be admire about making a cache hard to find because of clever cammo or a unique style of cover but just tossing a pill bottle in a sea of rocks or leaves is just lazy!”
