Geocache Description:

A bicycle ride from the source of the river Divoká Bystrice (Wilde Weißeritz) near Nové Mesto to its confluence in Freital (Germany). Use the waypoint descriptions and photos (or one of the PDF-files at the end of the listing) for finding the cache.

Along a (really?) wild river...


The river Divoká Bystrice (Wilde Weißeritz)


... rises in about 850m on the south side of the mountain Hutunk near Nové Mesto (Czech Republic). Near Rehefeld the river crosses the border to Germany. Until the unification with the neighbour river Rote Weißeritz in Freital-Hainsberg the Divoká Bystrice flows a distance of 52.5 km. The river is currently not really wild, mainly due to the two dams Lehnmühle and Klingenberg. But after heavy rainfall or snow melting the small river still has the right name. Although there are dams, the small river then grows rapidly to a dangerous mountain river. The towns of Tharandt, Freital and (after the confluence with Rote Weißeritz) also Dresden were flooded multible times.
