To reach this cache, approach Penitente peak either from Lake peak or from Puerto Nambe. You do not need to climb to the top of Petinte, as the skyline trail (251) tucks to the south of the peak, and lets you get right onto the ridge. Continue south along the ridge until you are out of the trees and out in the open again and climb to this unnamed peak to enjoy a panoramic view of the Pecos valley, the Pecos Baldies, the Truchas, Santa Fe Baldy, Penitente, Lake Peak, Tesuque Peak and the Santa Fe watershed. If you require even more solitude, you can continue to the second peaklet farther south.
