The Church of  Transfiguration is located on Bedford Road, Kempston, it is part of the Diocese of St Albans and is a Grade 2 listed building.  A local benefactress, Mrs Anne Charles-Wilson bequeathed £8,000 for building a new church in the parish but it had to be dedicated to The Transfiguration.  Originally the church was a daughter church of All Saints Church, The Church of the Transfiguration replaced two other Kempston churches.  The Church building was designed using brick in a revised Gothic style influenced by the late Victorian Arts and Craft Movement by Harrold Gibbons.  The Church was concecrated in 1940, it was the first church in the county to be consecrated during the second world war.

The Beds and Herts Regiment raised over £500, when the Church was built, for St. George's Chapel.  It was intended to be a regimental chapel to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the beginnings of the regiment.  Some of the Regiment's colours are still in the church and there is still an annual sevice held each year - the Annual Blenheim Service.

There is a separate baptistery which includes a carved stone font of 1868 which used to stand in Saint John's church. The east window had stained glass installed in 1972.  Upstairs there is a Chapel for personal prayer and quiet.

The Church became a seperate parish in 1976.
