Geocache Description:

Pálos rend címere Magyarország területén egyedülálló műemléknek számít a Martonyi kolostorrom. Ez a létesítmény – építészeti szempontból – a legjobb állapotban fennmaradt emléke az egyetlen magyar alapítású szerzetesrendnek.

A kolostort 1341-ben szalonnai nemesek (Tekes család) alapították, majd 1399-től a Szalonnai család birtokába került a létesítmény. A templomot a Boldogságos Szűz tiszteletére építették. A szentély 3 oltárát János egri segédpüspök szentelte fel 1411-ben, az 1550-es évek környékén vált lakhatatlanná, a törökdúlás idején.

Pauline Order coat of arms
The Martonyi monastery ruins are considered a unique historical monument within the territory of Hungary. From an architectural perspective, this facility is the best-preserved relic of the only monastic order founded in Hungary.

The monastery was founded in 1341 by noblemen from Szalonna (the Tekes family), and from 1399 the facility came into the possession of the Szalonnai family. The church was built in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The three altars of the sanctuary were consecrated by John, auxiliary bishop of Eger, in 1411. Around the 1550s, during the time of the Turkish devastation, it became uninhabitable.
