Geocache Description:

BEEVER TALE You will find a small second to find(STF)token with a short walk. Almost a park and grab. Careful when opening and removing log as not to spill out the swag. Please be respectful of this 159 year old historical site where there is a marker for Lieutenant Frederick John Holt Beever who was killed while on staff to General Sibley.  Lt. Beever, took a message to Colonel Crook’s camp farther down the Missouri.   Not having returned within a timely manner, General Sibley sent out a large search party for him. The search party found that on his return he apparently took a wrong trail and was ambushed and killed by three arrows and gun shot.  On the site near where he was killed, occurred the first Masonic ceremony held in the present state of North Dakota.  Private Nicholas Miller also took the wrong trail. His body was found and also buried and has a headstone on that ridge in a rifle pit overlooking the Apple Creek and Missouri River bottoms.   The spelling of Beever on the nearby signs is "Beaver".
