Cintorín hrdinov

Po vypuknutí Slovenského národného povstania od začiatku septembra 1944 celý verejný život v Trenčíne rozhodujúcim spôsobom ovplyvňovali nemecké okupačné jednotky. Tie zabrali pre svoju potrebu jednotlivé verejné i súkromné budovy, vrátane škôl a internátov. Trenčín bol aj sídlom veliteľstva pohotovostnej jednotky nemeckej 13. bezpečnostnej služby (Einsatzkomando) SD, ktorá zanechala v meste a jeho okolí, ako aj v ďalších piatich okresoch Slovenska, krvavé stopy. O krutosti výsluchov svedčili stopy, ktoré sa po oslobodení mesta našli v pivniciach sídla gestapa a bezpečnostnej polície. V dobe od 25. októbra 1944 do 3. apríla 1945 bolo z väznice Krajského súdu v Trenčíne odvedených do lesa na Brezine celkom 69 osôb, civilov, domácich aj zahraničných vojakov a partizánov, ktoré boli v lese beštiálne povraždené a zahrabané do niekoľkých hrobov. Nepriamo sa na týchto akciách zúčastňoval aj pohotovostný oddiel Hlinkovej gardy HG 52, ktorý bol od novembra 1944 dislokovaný v Trenčíne.

Po oslobodení mesta bolo od 18. mája 1945 na trenčianskej Brezine v lokalite Dušova dolina, Vápenice a Široké objavených a exhumovaných sedem hrobov, v ktorých bolo nájdených 69 obetí, z toho 65 mužov 4 ženy. Všetci boli bosí, nahí alebo len nepatrne oblečení a ich telá niesli stopy po mučení. Zastrelených ranou do tyla bolo 61 mužov a 3 ženy; dvaja muži boli uškrtení, dvaja muži a jedna žena mali rozbité lebky. 26 obetí sa nepodarilo identifikovať. Na mieste masových hrobov v Dušovej doline sa nachádza malý pomník s dvomi pamätnými tabuľami. Po exhumácii bolo 56 obetí prevezených z miesta nálezu a pochovaných na cintoríne nad Čerešňovým sadom. Ostatných si odviezli ich rodiny a pochovali na cintorínoch v rodných obciach.

Pôvodná podoba cintorínu (pred 1969):

Dnešnú podobu dostal cintorín v roku 1969. Hrobovú časť tvoria tri oblúkové pásy hrobov z jednotlivými náhrobkami, na ktorých sú mená obetí, ich vek v čase smrti a bydlisko. Pred hrobovou časťou bola pôvodne na kamennom podstavci umiestnená kruhová plastika tŕňovej koruny zo zváranej medi, symbolizujúca utrpenie. Na pravej strane hrobovej časti je ústredný pamätník, na ľavú časť bol dodatočne umiestnený kríž. Plastika tŕňovej koruny bola po zmene režimu bola odcudzená a zlodeji ukradli z kríža aj plastiku Krista...

Cemetery of heroes

After the outbreak of the Slovak National Uprising from the beginning of September 1944, the entire public life in Trenčín was decisively influenced by the German occupation troops. They occupied individual public and private buildings, including schools and boarding schools, for their needs. Trenčín was also the seat of the headquarters of the emergency unit of the German 13th Security Service (Einsatzkommando) SD, which left bloody traces in the city and its surroundings, as well as in five other districts of Slovakia. Evidence of the cruelty of the interrogations was found in the basements of the Gestapo headquarters and the security police after the liberation of the city. In the period from October 25, 1944 to April 3, 1945, a total of 69 people, civilians, domestic and foreign soldiers and partisans, were taken from the prison of the Regional Court in Trenčín to the forest in Brezin, where they were brutally murdered in the forest and buried in several graves. The Hlinka Guard HG 52 emergency unit, which was stationed in Trenčín from November 1944, also participated indirectly in these actions.

After the liberation of the city, from May 18, 1945, seven graves were discovered and exhumed in the area of ​​Dušova dolina, Vápenice and Široké in Trenčia's Brezina, in which 69 victims were found, of which 65 were men and 4 were women. All were barefoot, naked or scantily clad, and their bodies bore the marks of torture. 61 men and 3 women were shot in the back; two men were strangled, two men and one woman had their skulls fractured. 26 victims could not be identified. There is a small monument with two commemorative plaques at the site of the mass graves in Dušová dolina. After the exhumation, 56 victims were transported from the place of discovery and buried in the cemetery above the Cherry Orchard. The rest were taken away by their families and buried in cemeteries in their native villages.

The cemetery got its present form in 1969. The grave part consists of three arched bands of graves with individual tombstones, on which are the names of the victims, their age at the time of death and their place of residence. In front of the grave part, a circular sculpture of a crown of thorns made of welded copper, symbolizing suffering, was originally placed on a stone plinth. There is a central monument on the right side of the grave part, a cross was additionally placed on the left part. The sculpture of the crown of thorns was stolen after the regime change, and thieves also stole the sculpture of Christ from the cross...
