Welcome to one of Langenhovenpark's charming "koppies". Nestled on the Western outskirts of Bloemfontein, Langenhovenpark offers a unique blend of countryside allure and metropolitan luxury, making it an irresistible destination for geocachers seeking a memorable experience, with plenty of Geocaches of every dificulty.
Langenhovenpark's "koppies" provide a picturesque backdrop for your geocaching expedition. These natural formations, synonymous with the suburb, are home to a delightful array of wildlife, including dassies and the iconic guinea fowl, adding a touch of wilderness to your quest.
As you explore the area in search of this cache, take note of the rich history that surrounds you. Langenhovenpark traces its origins to the farm Langenhovenpark 2924 and boasts streets named after prominent Afrikaans writers and poets.
Previously, a Geocache existed at this location, but it was removed last year due to lack of maintenance. However, the site and view are so stunning that I decided to hide one here again. Access to the koppie is facilitated by several gates. The gate on the South side (Grosskopf street) provides the easiest route, but it may be locked due to the attempts to privatize the koppies. Fortunately, several residents, including myself, have voiced complaints about the locking of this koppie, resulting in the gate on the West side (Boerneef street) being left unlocked. While it presents a harder climb, the breathtaking view makes it worth the effort.
The cache is located on the South side of the koppie, just East of the beaten path, offering a beautiful spot for a lookout over Langenhovenpark and Bloemfontein. Be sure to place the flat rocks back ontop of the containter, so the dassies don't have their way with it. Happy hunting!
