Geocache Description:

About SideTracked

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breathtaking view. It's simply a cache-and-dash distraction for the weary public transport user, which can be found at or near train stations, former train stations, and miniature railroads. There are currently over 4,500 SideTracked caches in more than 30 countries around the world. More information can be found on the SideTracked series website.

This cache was replaced in conjunction with the SideTracked 17th anniversary celebration week which runs 8/7/24 through 8/13/24. There's an anniversary event being held on Saturday, 8/10/24: GCAVPZ0: SideTracked Day 2024 - Corona redux.

About This Station

The Allen station is part of the A Line of the LA Metro Rail System from Pasadena to Azusa. An extension to Pomona is expected to be completed in 2025, with further extension to Montclair by 2028. Passenger service at Allen began on July 26, 2003.

The station features an architectural design called Rider's Dream, created by artist Michael Amescua. His series of steel panels, created in the tradition of papel picado, or punched paper, are painted a deep forest green with brushed stainless steel and red enamel accents, and forms a relief against a golden ceramic tile wall. The panels depict a family of figures and a dog in a mystical romp through the region’s rich flora and fauna - an idyllic background scene that includes a sun and moon, stars that morph into birds, palm and pine trees, mountains and arroyo, river boulders, and rail tracks. These images mimic the surroundings that can be viewed from the station platform above. Another panel of cutout flowers demarcates a corner alcove above the entrance stairway.

On the platform level, a 10-foot tall stainless steel “Sun Marker” fashioned in the same cutout tradition hovers over passengers, casting shadows on the gold slate pavement below while heralding the summer and winter equinox.

About This Cache

The cache is just off Metrolink property, per SideTracked guidelines. You shouldn't have any trouble grabbing it if you have 5-10 minutes to spare before your train arrives. Do not remove it from the host, just unscrew the lid.
