平安遷都1100年を記念して、明治28年（1895）に平安遷都の立役者である第50代桓武天皇をご祭神として創建された神社です。

周辺には図書館や美術館などの文化施設が集まり、それらの美しい建築とともに文化や歴史を体験できます。

キャッシュは平安神宮を代表する建築物でもある大鳥居の近くに設置しました。
