About Village Sign Caches
This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).
The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

This area is named after, not surprisingly, Kent House. The building stood near the junction of Kent House Rd and Lennard Rd. It was so named as it was the first house in Kent when travelling from London. Its history has been traced back as far back as 1240 when it was owned by St. Catherine’s Hospital.
A document dated 1503 related to a petition to Henry VIII, following a murder trial, in which John Style, of Langley, was acquitted; the scene of the alleged crime was Kent House.
The property later had various uses including as a farm, nursing home and hotel. The ancient buidling was demolished in 1957.
