About Village Sign Caches
This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).
The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!
More information and statistics can be found at the Village Signs Website
Bingham is a historic market town in Nottinghamshire, about nine miles east of Nottingham. It sits at the junction of the A46 and A52, giving it excellent transport links while retaining a friendly, small-town character. The town’s roots stretch back to Roman times, with the ancient Fosse Way running nearby, and it was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Bingham.
Today, Bingham combines traditional charm with modern living. The town centre hosts a weekly market and a monthly farmers’ market, alongside independent shops, cafés, and pubs. A strong sense of community is reflected in local events, clubs, and volunteer groups.
Bingham has well-regarded schools, including Toot Hill School and several primaries, making it popular with families. Its train station offers regular services to Nottingham and Grantham, and the surrounding Vale of Belvoir countryside provides scenic walks and historic attractions. Blending heritage, convenience, and a welcoming atmosphere, Bingham remains one of Rushcliffe’s most attractive and thriving towns.
If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do. I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk so we can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
