Lugeing is defined by Britanica as: a form of small-sled racing. Luge sledding is distinctive from bob and skeleton sledding in that the sled is ridden in a supine position (lying on the back) and steered by subtle leg and shoulder movements. The sport takes its name from the French word for “sled.”
Muskegon State Park is home of a Luge course that is open to public. Yes. Open to the public. Which means YOU can go lugeing yourself. Here is the deal. This event is being held at the fire pit at the bottom of the course. You must go online and an reserve a place. I believe that there are about only 30 people that can luge on a Thursday night. Last year when my family went, this did get completely booked. Please reserve a spot as soon as you know that you will go so as to not miss out on this opportunity.

As part of the experience, the state park times the lugers and gave out "medals" last year to the fastest sliders.
Last year we got to slide three times over 3 hours. All shapes and sizes slid. Some only once but most as many times as they could.
It is easy to learn. Most did not push off to start with. Be calm. You basically turn the direction that you head turns. ADHD caught me my first run. I looked right when I should have looked left. I rolled off, but no damage was done. Stay focus and confident.
What if you know that you do not want to luge? Enjoy the fire. Cheer us on. Plan doing it next time. Find the geocache in the middle of the luge course.
*** Important to note...Lugeing works best with ice. Ice also means that the walk to the course is likely slippery, maybe like an ice rink slippery. Please use caution. The track does close if it is too warm.
