Geocache Description:

Earth Crush 1 💙 Granite hey !

🇫🇷

🇬🇧

With Flo, we share a great passion for geocaching: EarthCaches 🥰. We are intense rock hunters! 🪨😄 You could even say it’s a real crush 🤢. Our second geocaching passion is GeoArt 🤩. So we pushed ourselves a bit and decided to mix the two. A big headache to set up 😵‍, but in the end, totally doable.

Questions : Locate the blue dot in the photo above and answer the following questions :

1 - What are the three main minerals that make up granite ?

2 - Based on your observation, is this a veined, speckled, or solid granite ?

3 - What are the two main colors of this granite ?

4 - Take a photo in front of this wall (without touching the granite), with your geocaching username visible, and make an 👌 sign with your hand.

EarthCache Rules: "Log this "Found it" cache and send me your suggested answers either via my profile or via email, and I will contact you if there is a problem."

Lesson :

History and definition : Granite is the result of the slow cooling, deep underground, of large masses of intrusive magma, which most often form plutonic rocks. These rocks are now exposed at the surface by erosion, which strips away the overlying rocks. Granite and its associated rocks make up the majority of the Earth's continental crust. It is a durable material widely used in construction, paving, decoration, and sculpture.

Varieties and characteristics : It is characterized by its mineral composition: quartz, potassium feldspar, plagioclase feldspar, and mica. Granite has a granular texture and comes in many colors (pink, black, blue, gray, white, red, etc.) and varieties (plain, regular, veined, etc.).

Happy Géocaching everyone 😎
