With Flo, we share a great passion for geocaching: EarthCaches đ„°. We are intense rock hunters! đȘšđ You could even say itâs a real crush đ€ą. Our second geocaching passion is GeoArt đ€©. So we pushed ourselves a bit and decided to mix the two. A big headache to set up đ”â, but in the end, totally doable.

Questions :Â Locate the blue area in the photo above and answer the following questions :
1 - What type of solution transports the minerals into the spaces to form the veins ?
2 - Based on your observation, what is the mechanism by which this vein forms ?
3 - What color is this vein?
4 - Take a photo in front of the wall with your geocaching username visible and make a đïž sign with your hand

Lesson :
History and Definition : In geology, a vein is a distinct, sheet-like body of crystallized minerals within a rock. Veins form when mineral constituents transported by an aqueous solution within the rock mass are deposited by precipitation. The hydraulic flow involved is generally due to hydrothermal circulation.
Varieties and Characteristics : There are two main mechanisms considered capable of forming veins: open-space filling and fissure sealing.
- Open-Space Filling : Veins formed in this way are caused by geological phenomena resulting from temperature-limited processes. Therefore, near the Earth's surface, they fill the available open space. Signs of boiling of the liquid are often present. Generally, the space is on the order of a centimeter, and the resulting rock cavity is lined with crystals and other mineral materials, such as a geode.
- Crack sealing : When the confining pressure is too high, it is thought that cracked veins form quite rapidly during deformation, through the precipitation of minerals into the nascent fractures. This occurs quickly by geological standards, because the pressures and deformation mean that large open spaces cannot be maintained. Typically, the space is on the order of a millimeter.
