Pamätník slobody slova / Freedom of Speech Monument
Slovenská verzia
Táto virtuálna keška vás privádza na hlboko pietne miesto do obce Veľká Mača. Práve tu, na Brezovej ulici, stál domov investigatívneho novinára Jána Kuciaka a jeho snúbenice, archeologičky Martiny Kušnírovej. Ich životy boli predčasne a násilne ukončené vo februári 2018.

English version
This Virtual Cache brings you to a deeply solemn place in the village of Veľká Mača. It was right here, on Brezová Street, where the home of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée, archaeologist Martina Kušnírová, once stood. Their lives were tragically cut short in February 2018.
At the request of their families, the original house was demolished, and the Trnava Self-Governing Region built the official Freedom of Speech Monument in its place.
The winning architectural design by Benjamín Brádňanský, Vít Halada, and Martin Piaček uses elements of tilting, imbalance, and deflection. This symbolizes a permanent mark on Slovak history and a grave attack on freedom of expression and democracy. The area serves not only as a place for quiet remembrance but also features a community orchard and space for future dialogue.
Please maintain the utmost respect, silence, and solemnity during your visit.
