W 2020 roku, z powodu zaangażowania żołnierzy w działania związane z przeciwdziałaniem pandemii oraz obowiązujących obostrzeń sanitarnych, odwołano tradycyjne zgromadzenia i mszę świętą, a zadania realizowano w trybie operacyjnym. W latach o standardowym przebiegu stałą częścią obchodów pozostają uroczyste zbiórki w jednostkach brygad zmechanizowanych czy kawalerii powietrznej, podczas których dowódcy dokonują podsumowań rocznych efektów pracy patroli rozminowania, przedstawiających statystyki dotyczące unieszkodliwionych niewybuchów i niewypałów, a także wręczają wyróżnienia podległym żołnierzom.

Aby uzyskać współrzędne odpowiedz na pytania:

1. W którym roku ustanowiono Dzień Sapera?

2. Podaj numer rozkazu Naczelnego Dowódcy Wojska Polskiego, którym ustanowiono to święto.

3. Jaką nazwę nosi operacja z kwietnia 1945 roku, podczas której doszło do forsowania Odry i Nysy Łużyckiej? (dwa słowa)

#102 Sapper's Day - Engineering Corps Day - 16 April

Sapper’s Day, observed annually on 16 April as Engineering Corps Day, commemorates the soldiers responsible for mine clearance, building crossings, removing obstacles and supporting combat and rescue operations. The holiday was established by Order No. 105 of the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army dated 4 April 1946. The date was chosen to commemorate the crossing of the Oder and Lusatian Neisse rivers by sappers of the 1st and 2nd Armies of the Polish Army during the Berlin Offensive in April 1945. Since then, 16 April has remained the most important day in the Engineering Corps’ calendar.

One of the main venues for the celebrations remains the ‘Glory to the Sappers’ monument in Warsaw. The ceremonies are attended by representatives of the leadership of the Polish Armed Forces, the General Command of the Armed Forces Branches, soldiers from the engineering corps, Ministry of Defence staff, veterans and the families of the fallen. The nature of the celebrations has varied from year to year depending on the situation in the country. In 2020, due to the involvement of soldiers in operations to combat the pandemic and the health restrictions in force, the traditional gatherings and Holy Mass were cancelled, and tasks were carried out on an operational basis. In years when events proceed as normal, a regular feature of the commemorations is the ceremonial assemblies held at mechanised brigade and air cavalry units, during which commanders review the annual achievements of demining patrols, presenting statistics on unexploded ordnance and abandoned munitions that have been rendered harmless, and also present awards to their subordinates.

To get the coordinates, answer the following questions:

1. In which year was Sapper’s Day established?

2. Give the number of the order issued by the Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army establishing this holiday.

3. What was the name of the operation in April 1945 during which the Oder and Lusatian Neisse rivers were crossed? (two words)

4. In front of which monument is the central midday gathering held?

We recommend exploring the GeoTrail on foot or by bike. We strongly advise against attempting to drive the route by car, even in areas where the road is not blocked by barriers. The entire forest area is under surveillance, and driving a vehicle inside carries the risk of receiving a fine.
