About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

Piddington railway station, located near the village of Horton in West Northamptonshire, England, opened on 1 May 1876 as "Piddington & Horton" and was officially renamed Piddington in April 1904. Although situated close to the village of Piddington, the station was actually located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) from the village center. It operated on the Bedford to Northampton Line, initially built by the Bedford & Northampton Railway and later managed by the Midland Railway and later the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. Passenger services ceased on 7 September 1964, and goods services were withdrawn in 1965. The station briefly served as a junction point for the Stratford-upon-Avon and Midland Junction Railway (SMJR) from December 1892, with a nearby Salcey Forest station to the southwest, but this service was short-lived. The original line closed in 1962, and the route is now just northeast of Horton, with a proposal to reopen the line. The station is now disused, with only a disused track and a connection to the B526 road remaining. Confusion sometimes arises with a nearby disused SMJR line, which had no station at Piddington or Horton.
