Geocache Description:

Another in the 'Little Bridges' series - found while out looking for a location for another cache.

Over the last couple of years we have found ourselves coming over to Marden very regularly to play Padel, an up and coming racquet sport with two new(ish) courts that can be found at the Marden Cricket and Hockey Club.

As a result with a few caches that can be found in the area we decided to add a few more.

This is a simple multi cache hidden which is found on a public footpath off Plain Road in Marden - parking can be found very near to the start of that footpath (see waypoint)

In the area I spotted some signs that made reference to permissive footpaths (different to public footpaths) - the cache is found on a public footpath but in the area you will find many permissive paths. These permissive paths laid out with the permission of the landowner stretch over 4 miles in the local area and found around arable fields, meadows, orchards and vineyards at the southern end of the landowners property.
These paths have been made accessible in collaboration with DEFRA, Natural England and Marden Wildlife Group

From their website (which can be found if you scan the QR codes found on the permissive path signs) I found the following :-

Our Permissive Footpaths are exclusively for those on foot; please stay on the marked and mown route, at all times, and follow the Countryside Code, the central principles of which are to leave no trace that you were ever there, respect others and stick to the permitted paths. Most of all? Have fun out in the fresh air!

Those with dogs are welcome, but do please keep your dog on a lead as the fields that you are walking around are all being managed to maintain and enhance the habitat and local wildlife; a curious dog might disturb ground nesting birds giving their position away to eagle-eyed predators. It is also worth remembering that not everyone will enjoy contact with your dog as much as you, so please respect others using these paths.

For this mutli - at the original location you will see one of these permissive footpath signs

On the top rectangular sign - you will see 4 words
In order from top to bottom, using the number of letters in each word, call these A, B, C and D

You will find the cache at
N51 09.((B+(C/D) (C-D) (C-(C/D))  E000 29.(C+(C/D)) (B-A) ((B-A)+(C/D))

Checksum for the whole lot  = 54

So enjoy the cache and have an explore around the area at the same time as much or as little as you'd like

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast.
There is a stats listing, so you can see how many Little Bridges you have found, you can find it here:- https://www.littlebridgesseries.co.uk If you would like to add to the series, please contact us via the Little Bridges website with your caching name, name of your Little Bridge and the GC code and we will give you a number for your bridge. To qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches "Little Bridges # xxxx then the name" including spaces so it will get picked up and added to stats list.

Some stats - The LBs started in Wiltshire and after 25 caches in the series, the first to be placed in another county was in Kent laugh - GC1TZ2G hidden back in 2009 (now archived) - since then over 3300+ more caches have been added to the series in 60 counties of the UK - The county with the highest number of LB caches is Avon (955) followed by Wiltshire (445) (which is nearly half of the complete series between them !)
This will be the 70th LB cache hidden in Kent

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order to log a 'found' online you must sign the physical logsheet - unless good reason for not being able to do so (sodden / full logsheet etc - if this is the case, ensure an 'Owner Attention Requested' log is also added, followed up with a photo sent to the CO in messages) - however, 'I didn't have a pen' - just log a 'write note'.

If you cannot find the cache, do not assume it missing and do not put a throwdown as a replacement. ALL maintenance is the responsibility of the CO – if any is required, please add an ‘Owner Attention Requested’ log to highlight the issue.
