One day. Every community. Geocachers worldwide cleaning up.
A little over 2 years ago georeyna, the Southeast Representative for the Texas Geocaching Association, asked a simple question - What could happen if geocachers around Texas came together on one day to make their communities cleaner? Based on that simple question, the Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) created an event named 'CITO Across Texas' in conjunction with World Cleanup Day. Geocachers throughout Texas hosted cleanup events in their own communities on the same day. Each event is locally organized, but together they become part of something much bigger. In 2026, they took the next step.
CITO: Season Two 2026
Pāpāwai-Mangarara Stream Restoration: R W Tate Scenic Reserve
Saturday 19 September; 10.30 am to 12 pm.
The R W Tate Memorial Scenic Reserve was gifted by Colonel Robert Ward Tate who was a local solicitor and WW I war hero. Between 1919 and 1923 Colonel Tate was the New Zealand Administrator in post war Western Samoa.
Today we will be removing ivy and other weeds as well as doing some planting in the reserve which part of the Pāpāwai-Mangarara stream flows through.
Parking is on the side of the road near the entrance way (look out for my caching flag). Please angle park so there is room for all cars.
Please bring:
-
gardening gloves;
-
gardening equipment (secateurs, loppers, spades);
-
water bottle, warm clothing, etc.
All going well, I will have savoury (time for something different) muffins for everyone to eat after the event. New caches are a possibly.
I have permission from BE Viking, who is organising/collating information for this world-wide event, for the above badge/coin to be added to the profile pages of attendees, once they have successfully logged this CITO.
