A bit of history :
Built on the remains of an old fortified church, the Collegiate Church of Saint-Laurent bears witness to more than 900 years of history.
In 1342, King Philip VI of France established a college of canons here — a group of religious clergy responsible for celebrating services. This is why the church became known as a “Collegiate Church”.
Its impressive Romanesque bell tower dates back to the 11th century, while the Gothic nave and remarkable apse were built in the 14th and 15th centuries. The church was damaged by fire during the Wars of Religion and later restored.
Its architecture combines Romanesque and Gothic styles, with a massive bell tower and a strikingly tall apse.
