The small Church of Our Lady of the Road is located in the locality of Crosere, within the municipality of Latisana, and is a subsidiary church of the Parish of Saint Mary Magdalene in Latisanotta.
It was built in 1961, based on a design by surveyor Enor Milocco, thanks to the initiative of the residents of Crosere and two parish priests. The church was in fact built near the important intersection of the Strada Statale Triestina, which at the time was characterized by heavy traffic, including traffic heading towards Lignano, and unfortunately by frequent accidents. The Madonna was therefore entrusted with the protection of travellers and the people living in the area.
Its origins are also closely connected to the life of the local community. Before the church was built, there was no proper place of worship in Crosere, and so the idea arose to build a small church of their own. To raise the necessary funds, the residents organized numerous initiatives: village festivals, musical events, charity raffles, collections and the sale of eggs, and even silkworm breeding. In addition, a local resident, Teresina Cicuttin, widow of Mizzau, donated 1,000 square metres of land for the construction, and the building work took place in August and September 1961.
