It's BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!
Time for the second "annual" Matrix Family World Post Card Day Party.
Postcards have always been a way to send a slice of travels or special occasions with friends and relatives, a short note to say HI, or just a silly card to brighten someone's day. Seemed like a perfect fit with Geocaching to me last year so let's do it again..
In coordination with the Big Rock Park District and Geocaching itself, this event is geared to all skill levels of caching, or none at all, with the added bonus of sending postcards to people you know, and even getting a souvenier or two. World Postcard Day is October first each year, so we'll be a few days late. But hey, it's just a bunch of postcards that have to get through the postal system!
I will bring various postcards made from photos I've taken plus blank cards that can be decorated as you like, or feel free to bring your own cards to use or share. Postcard makers will be responsible for their own postage this year, but I can take stamped cards to the post office when I drop mine off to travel the world.
We'll be using the pavillion at Hake Park same as last year, and will have use of the Park District meeting room in case weather gets interesting. I'll have snacks and a cooler with a beverage or two, plus there's a bottle filler for drinking water, and the bathrooms will still be open for use. I will have prizes for furthest distance of an address, and maybe some random prizes just because.
October 3rd, 2026
3:00pm start - 6th Street and Madison, Big Rock, IL
I'm sure we'll be here for more than an hour, if you happen to be running late. And I do expect some non-cachers might attend this year thanks to the Park District's promotion of the event. For those that haven't found them yet, there are caches in the park and many newer ones in the area. There might even be one publishing that day, you never know! And I'll also be pushing people to help find EJ if you haven't already!
For those that have the time, perhaps think about attending another Postcard event earlier in the day, like GCBXQMV by jjjaakk over between Downers Grove and Westmont earlier in the day. You can never attend too many events!
