Viv(o) la France, vive la France, vive Vivo. That's how it should be.
We place this cache in memory of our Podenco Vivo. He came to us in January 2024 at the age of about three months through our animal rescue organization "Arche Noah Teneriffa e.V.". Vivo had been found on the street in Atogo, Tenerife, at the age of about six weeks; he was in very bad condition and suffering from burns. The entire litter had apparently been poisoned and set on fire to dispose of the dogs. Somehow, Vivo managed to escape the flames and survived. He received treatment at specialist clinics both in Tenerife and in Germany. He recovered well, fighting his way back to life despite numerous health issues, and grew into a cheerful, funny and active young dog. No one expected what happened on January 3, 2025: within just a few hours Vivo went into liver failure for no apparent reason. He died at home in his basket – our vet came to us to put him down. We had to let him go when he was not even 15 months old; the poison had destroyed his little body.
Sadly, Vivo’s case is not an isolated one in Spain. Thousands of dogs are cruelly killed every year after the hunting season or even before if they are deemed worthless by the often unscrupulous hunters – they starve, are shot, hanged, thrown into well shafts or dragged to death tied to a car. Hunting dogs are not considered pets in Spain.
Vivo spent his first and only vacation with us in Mimizan-Plage; he enjoyed the mild climate but was a bit afraid of the waves at the beach. His holiday home was located not far from the cache; we used to walk the dogs almost daily in this area. We want to use this cache to keep his memory alive.
