Geocache Description:

Let's come together as Geocachers who care for our Beaches and Marine Life and want to do more than just pick up rubbish.

"If all we do is clean-up, that's all we'll ever do" Heidi Tait, Founder of Tangaroa Blue and the Australian Marine Debris Initiative

Back in 2022 I was lucky enough to join the Tangaroa Blue https://tangaroablue.org/ team of volunteers for a week at the top of Cape York. We cleaned the 5 Beach Loop, picking up 3 tonnes of rubbish. We also sorted all that rubbish into categories of materials, sizes, lengths, weights, brands and country of origin. All this data was entered into the Australian Marine Debris Initiative database (AMDI) to assist in prevention and education initiatives.

I found all this to be a valuable experience I'd love to share with the Geocaching community. For this reason I am putting on my Tangaroa Blue and AMDI hats to guide us through a collection, sorting debris and enter our data into the system during Beach CITOs.
