This cache will bring you to one of the most remote and beautiful
parts of Kerry. Glencar, also called "The Highlands of Kerry", is a
National Heritage and Special Conservation Area in the middle of
the Iveragh peninsula in Co. Kerry. You can approach this cache
from Killarney, Killorglin, Cahersiveen or Sneem. If you can, you
should drive through both the Ballagh Oisin Gap (from Cahersiveen
or Waterville) and Ballagh Beama Gap (from Sneem and Kenmare) –
they are breathtaking. You will find map displays on all approach
roads to this area.
The cache consists of two parts. You can drive to the first
part, but you will walk for about 30 minutes each way for the final
cache.
Part 1
N51 57.832 W009 51.089
Not only are we on a different time zone in Kerry, we use a
different calendar as well! Find the date this man died – it does
not exist anywhere else. Note the day as AB, the month as CD and
the year as EFGH.
Part 2
Follow the road beside the river towards Cloon Lake and park right
beside the lake at:
N51 56.795 W009 52.786
(Please note that this road does not show on the map displays.)
Calculate the cache coordinates as follows:
N51 56.(G)(A+B)(A+G) W009 53.(F)(H-C)(H+D)
Walk along the dirt road through some gates until you reach the
cache area. There is no need to climb any fences. Walking boots are
recommended. Enjoy the views!
